Additional learning opportunities
Additional learning opportunities are elements of the programme of study that augment the usual classroom teaching of the syllabus content.
Typical additional opportunities are work experience, year abroad, additional employability modules or activities (such as courses run by careers centres), extra language classes and, in some cases, opportunities to reflect on extra-curricular activity, voluntary or paid.

It is a moot point whether additional opportunities are linked to the programme of study (and compulsory or options), separate from the programme but facilitated by the university, extra-curricular and entirely outside the university. In practice, all three scenarios offer students additional learning opportunities but some places, such as the definition above, only include them in this category if they are a feature of the programme of study.
