Branch campus
A branch campus is a separate site of a university or college established in a location away from the site of the main university, usually in another town or city either in the same country or abroad.
A branch campus usually operates relatively autonomously, although still part of the home higher education provider and awarding degrees from the home institution. The branch campus is established to increase the reach of the higher education institution, recruitng students that would not normally attend the home campus. British, Austalian, American and Indian universities, for example, are among those who have branch campuses in the United Arab Emirates.
If a university has several campuses in its home town or city, such as Birmingham City University, these are not branch campuses.
The UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) (undated) states:
Branch campus: A campus of a college or university that is located separately from the main or 'home' campus and is typically smaller.
