Wojtczak (2002) states:

Performance or assessment standards define degrees of attainment of content standards and level of competencies in compliance with the professional requirements. Performance standards describe how well content has been learned.

McBrien & Brandt (1997, p. 93) state:

Georgia Department of Education (2009, p. 4) define performance standards as follows:

Georgia’s performance standards provide clear expectations for instruction, assessment, and student work. Performance standards isolate and identify the skills needed to use the knowledge and skills to problem-solve, reason, communicate, and make connections with other information. They also tell the teacher how to assess the extent to which the student understands the standard and can manipulate and apply the information. Performance standards incorporate the content standard….

Vlãsceanu et al., (2007, pp. 92–93) state:

Performance Standards: Levels of achievement that are deemed exemplary or appropriate, i.e. specifications of the required level of quality of a student’s work to meet the content standards. Performance standards shape expectations for educational outcomes.
