Provision


core definition

Provision is an all-encompassing term that refers to the learning opportunities, research and community activity offered/undertaken by an institution of higher education.


explanatory context

Provision, in specific contexts, may imply a subset of the all-encompassing meaning. For example, programme provision would imply the range of curricula, modes of study, teaching methods and learning support infrastructure.


analytical review

The UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) (2011) states:

Provision: In the context of higher education, making courses available to students and supplying them with learning opportunities accordingly.
