Unit
Unit has two meanings in the context of quality in higher education, one as subject and one as object of quality review.
1. unit is the generic name for a quality monitoring department internal to an institution.
2. unit is any element that is the subject of quality review: institution, subject area, faculty, department or programme of study.
Most institutions in the UK, for example, have quality assurance units within the central management structure to oversee internal quality processes and liaise with external agencies.
Campbell and Rozsnyai, (2002, p. 133) define unit as:
An institution, a faculty, or programme of study.
