Primary degree

A primary degree is the first-level higher education qualification (often synonymous with a bachelor’s degree).

In Ireland, primary degree is defined as:

The degree generally awarded after three or four years’ study at higher education level. First-degree courses in Architecture, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry requires five or six years, while Medicine takes six years. (HEA, 2004)
