Undergraduate
Undergraduate is a student who is undertaking a first-level degree programme of study, normally a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
When undergraduates complete the programme they become graduates. They may take further study, which in the UK and some other countries is known as postgraduate study, while in the US and other countries it is known as graduate study.
The Higher Education Funding Council for England (undated), defines undergraduate as:
Student working towards a first degree, higher education certificate or diploma or equivalent.

The Irish Higher Education Authority (2004) defines it as:
Undergraduate: Student at tertiary level enrolled in a course leading to a Bachelor's or primary degree, or a diploma.
The University of Canterbury (undated) states:
Undergraduate: The first degree you study towards at university is called an undergraduate degree, eg, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws. Certificates and diplomas are also undergraduate qualifications. An undergraduate student is one who is studying for for their first (bachelor’s) degree, or a certificate or diploma.
