Cooperative education
In some countries cooperative education is referred to as sandwich programmes or internship.
The site of the Common Data Set of U.S. Higher Education Terminology (2010) states:
Cooperative (work-study plan) program: A program that provides for alternate class attendance and employment in business, industry, or government.
The Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) [South Africa] (2004, p. 26) defined:
Co-operative education: A philosophy of learning that promotes the concept of enhanced learning based on co-operation between education institutions and industry, commerce and the public sector.
