The End of Quality?

Dr. Jethro NewtonDr. Jethro Newton is Head of the Academic Office at the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, an associated institution of the federal University of Wales.

Since 1997 he has been Chair of the Welsh Universities and Colleges Academic Development and Quality Group, and a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) Quality Assessment Committee.

He is currently an Advisory Board member of the Higher Education Wales 'Credit and Qualifications Framework' Project, and also a member of the Higher Education Wales 'Expert Group on Learning and Teaching', providing advice to the National Assembly for Wales Review of Higher Education.

An active researcher across a range of higher education policy issues, and an International Research Associate of the Unit for Research into Higher Education at the University of the Free State (National Research Foundation of South Africa), his research interests include:

  • 'Close-up' study of policy implementation in quality assurance and quality enhancement
  • Academics' responses to change in higher education
  • Development and implementation of learning and teaching strategies.
